"How far can it go?" is the first question most people ask about an electric scooter. The honest answer: it depends. Here is what affects e-scooter range and how to get the most out of every charge.
What the range number means
Manufacturers quote range under ideal conditions: a lighter rider, flat ground, mild weather and moderate speed. The HAZEL 1.0, for example, is rated for up to 25–35 km (15–22 miles) per charge under ideal conditions. Real-world range is usually lower.
What reduces range
- Rider weight: heavier loads need more energy.
- Hills: climbing uses far more battery than riding on the flat.
- Cold weather: lithium-ion batteries deliver less energy in the cold.
- Speed: riding at top speed all the time drains the battery faster.
- Tire pressure: soft tires add rolling resistance.
- Stop-and-go riding: constant hard acceleration uses more power than steady cruising.
How to get more range
- Keep pneumatic tires inflated to the recommended pressure.
- Accelerate smoothly and hold a steady speed.
- Store and charge the scooter indoors at room temperature.
- Top up the battery after rides instead of running it flat.
- Use the supplied charger; a replacement HZL 1.0 Charger is available.
Is the range enough for you?
Measure your usual round trip and allow a margin for hills, weather and detours. For most short trips and errands, an e-scooter like the HAZEL 1.0 covers the day on one charge. For more battery care tips, read our e-scooter guides.
